Gallup Missions:Day 1
I am diverging a little from my usual posts to help update friends, family, and those who are praying for our mission team here in Gallup, New Mexico.
11 of us left Bayfield this morning on mission for God and ready to put our hands and feet to work. There was a sense of great anticipation and readiness as we left the parking lot. For some, this is their first mission trip at all. For others, this is a first time with an overwhelming teenage population as their co-laborers. For all of us, wonder and curiosity occupied our minds as we checked in around 1:00, set up bedding, and waited for the other churches to arrive. I believe that there are 11 other churches here from Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Around 200 adults and students, all committed to serve God and change lives.
The first day was packed with instructions and orientation. Our team is divided up into work crews, There are 18 work teams total, each serving at a different work site. Some will be at multiple sites, as well. Many of the projects are in town, while the rest are out on various reservations surrounding Gallup. Our team members will be doing mostly repair, building of ramps, painting, and roofing. Other duties include first aid, devotional leaders, crew encourager, drivers, safety guides, decision recorders. While on the sites, it is our prayer that we will each get a chance to share the Gospel with at least one person.
With crews assigned and trained, we have spent the rest of the evening winding down physically, but winding up spiritually as we prepare for the week’s work. Before I call it a day, here are a few things we ask prayer for:
1) Health and safety for all.
2) People in Gallup and area will receive us well.
3) We will lead people to Christ, and they would accept him as their Lord and Savior.
4) New, encouraging, and lasting relationships to be formed and nurtured.
5) Our families back at home.
We start early in the morning with breakfast at 6:00. I will try to post a few pictures here and there, as well. Thank you for your support and prayers. Good night and God Bless!
